I purchased a property with an existing DSC alarm panel, installed in 2013 by Joshua Morris & Associates. My wife contacted Mr Chris van den Berg (the owner) to ask some questions, but he did not respond for more than a week. Eventually I called another installer who, together with the local DSC supplier by remote login, inspected the system to find that the Master Security Lockout Code had been set by Mr van den Berg. The DSC supplier advised that Mr van den Berg should supply this code; this was echoed by DSC internationally; as they put it, "it's like a car without the keys". They further advised that there was a backdoor, but that its use is not DSC recommended practice. Mr van den Berg refuses to supply this code. He states that he has no contract with me. He further states that "a competent installer should be able to bypass the system", and when I pointed out that DSC themselves advise against this practice, he stated that "he doesn't work for DSC". He is aware that my insurance requires my alarm to be active. I strongly advise not using this installer; I feel as though I am being blackmailed. The service level I received was zero.
