Never have I been so disappointed in my life. Pieter has no regard for his paying guests making false promises and pleading poverty.
We joined Pieter on a 7-night outing to the Kruger National Park. I made it known to Pieter from the start the reason for me PAYING to go on this trip is to be able to take photos relying on his expertise as this is his speciality. I cannot begin to describe the disappointment. Pieter has very little knowledge of the bush and is only really concerned about the big 5. He has very little regard for other visitors and the animals and more importantly his fellow guests in the car. If you asked him to stop he would slam on the brakes either chasing the animals away or causing his guest in the car to feel uncomfortable.
Majority of the sightings that we had, Pieter wanted to first get his photograph before allowing his paying photography guests to take photos. His erratic driving caused us to chase many animals into the bush and passing by so many as he has no regard for the rules of the park, exceeding the speed limit on many occasions.
Pieter has so little regard for his guest that he broke my camera lens due to his negligence and has not even apologised.
Pieter is very defensive when you try to talk to him and boasted on how he gets old ladies to share their food with him. He plays on people’s emotions and pleads poverty, hinting that he deserves a “tip” all the time, however, he does not even tip waiters. His prices that he advertises is also not correct as he expected me to pay for the conservation fees that he stated was included. He acknowledged that he needs to pay for it, but does not have the money, which begs the question that did he do with the money we paid. This added an additional expense of more than R 1000 to our outing which we did not budget for. He also seems to have different rules for different groups as we had to end up paying for our own coffee with breakfast. Just something you need to be aware of.
We went on a night drive, asked him to please pick us up as we did not want to walk back to the chalet so late in the evening to which his response was, “by 10, I am fast asleep.”
He does not have proper equipment to ensure that the food that he prepares for his guest remains sterile and food is defrosted and frozen again as you move between camps.
Pieter is very unprofessional as I still have not received a travel itinerary to know what I could expect and plan for when I had to pack my bags. When we got home, we simply asked Pieter a few questions and he blocked us on facebook as well as whatsapp to avoid us instead of just answering our questions.
I do not recommend Bryanston Safaris to anyone that wants to gain insight into the bush. I expected more from a company that “specialises” in trips to our National Parks.
